Over the past few decades, the need for resins has grown for printing, coating, and bonding projects. Ultraviolet (UV) curable resins, in particular, have become increasingly popular due to their versatility and quick drying ability. The material proves beneficial for a wide variety of applications in various industries, including:

  • UV inkjets
  • UV Inks, flexo litho and screen
  • Electronics
  • Automotive

UV-curable resins provide an ideal solution for applying coatings and adhesives to a broad spectrum of substrates, some of which include:

  • Plastics
  • Metal
  • Wood
  • Glass
  • Composite materials

High-quality chemicals are crucial to producing high-quality UV-curable formulations and optimal results. At Toagosei America, Inc., we are committed to delivering exceptional chemical solutions tailored to meet the specific demands of each client’s application.

UV 3D Printing Photopolymers

UV 3D printing technology allows manufacturers to improve product performance by using advanced materials—like UV-curable photopolymers—that are otherwise not usable with traditional manufacturing processes. The use of this cutting-edge technology has expanded into industries such as electronics, automotive, aerospace, packaging, medical, and more.

UV-curable photopolymers contain properties that change when exposed to light. In 3D printing, a UV ray provides the light source, which initiates a reaction that changes the photopolymer’s structure, modifying its mechanical and chemical properties.

The high-performance material proves beneficial in a broad range of 3D UV printing processes to create durable and detailed 3D printed objects. The versatility of UV-curable high-performance photopolymers over other materials means operators can better control these features of the final part:

Toagosei’s M-140 and M-5700 chemicals provide extreme toughness and low shrinkage during the curing process. M-930 is best suited for UV 3D printing applications requiring low viscosity.

Flexographic Plates

Flexographic printing utilizes flexible photopolymer plates to transfer ink and images to a flexible substrate, such as film or paper. The flexographic printing plates play a vital role in the printing process, and the quality of the image relies heavily on the quality of the printing plates used.

Originally made from rubber, modern printing plates consist of photopolymer material that is flexible enough for wrapping around cylindrical plate or print rollers. Flexographic printing is beneficial for producing labels, packaging, and many other applications.

To create flexographic plates, our M-140 and M-5700 chemicals provide enhanced toughness. M-5700 and M-7100 also offer enhanced adhesion. M-933 (PETA) and M-940 (DPHA) can also be used for flexographic plates.

Flexographic Inks

Using premium UV-curable flexographic inks provides the following advantages:

  • Quick drying times
  • Vibrant colors
  • Efficient production
  • Better adhesion
  • Environmental friendliness

For enhanced adhesion, combine M-5700 with M313 or M-923. OXT-101, OXT-212, and OXT-221 work well in oxetane epoxy formulations for better adhesion on PP or PE films.

Screen Printing Inks

Screen printing is ideal for printing on smooth surfaces and is an effective process for the electronics, textiles, and other industries. Applications include but are not limited to the following:

  • Decals
  • Nameplates
  • Signage
  • CDs
  • Metal decorations
  • Industrial applications
  • Automotive design

UV-curable screen inks provide exceptional color saturation and durability and can achieve intricate designs. They are compatible with various substrates and deliver superior print quality.

Toagosei’s M-140 and M-5700 chemicals provide enhanced flexibility and adhesion.

Inkjet Inks

Inkjet printing is a non-impact printing process that sprays liquid ink through small nozzles, with the ink droplets forming a printed image directly onto a substrate. The two primary types of inkjet printing are drop-on-demand and continuous.

Inkjet printing technology has a wide range of applications, which include packaging, graphics, and industrial printing. Utilizing UV-curable inkjet inks gives users fast curing, fade-resistant, and high-resolution results.

Premium UV-curable inkjet inks offer the following benefits:

  • Color accuracy
  • Water resistance
  • Versatility with a wide range of substrates

Toagosei’s OXT-10, OXT-221, and OXT-212 offer improved adhesion in UV-cured epoxy formulations. M-5400 and M-5700 offer enhanced adhesion, while M-930 offers reduced viscosity and added bio-based content.

Lithographic Inks

Publishing, packaging, and commercial printing industries often utilize lithographic (offset) printing for high-speed runs and package converting. The UV-curable inks used in lithographic printing applications provide excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates.

UV-curable lithographic inks deliver consistent results, rapid drying, and sharp images. The advantages of using top-quality UV-curable lithographic inks include:

  • Excellent transfer
  • Good adhesion
  • Minimal waste
  • Fast cure response

Toagosei’s M-940 (DPHA) and M-402 provide exceptional lithographic printing performance at high speeds. M-408, M-5400, and M-5700 offer better adhesion to plastics.

Coatings

UV-curable coatings can improve the aesthetics, protection, and functionality of printed materials. There are many benefits to using premium UV-curable coatings, such as exceptional abrasion resistance, gloss enhancement, and chemical resistance.

The available types of UV-curable coatings include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conformal coatings
  • Overprint varnishes
  • Primers

M-313, M-402, M-933, and M-940 can be used for higher transparency. M-313 provides a lower film curl.
