The emergence of viral diseases and the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have increased demand for materials that can help create safer public and personal environments. As awareness of infection prevention continues to grow, antiviral technologies have gained significant attention in applications ranging from public transportation and healthcare facilities to consumer products and textiles. Although many commercially available antiviral agents are derived from conventional antibacterial materials, antiviral performance does not necessarily correlate with antibacterial activity because viruses differ fundamentally from bacteria in their structure and biological behavior. This has created a need for new antiviral materials that combine high efficacy, safety, durability, and compatibility with a wide range of products. To address these requirements, Toagosei developed NOVARONĀ® IV, a series of inorganic antiviral processing agents designed to inactivate both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. This paper presents the development, properties, antiviral performance, safety characteristics, and potential applications of NOVARONĀ® IV1000, IV2000, and IV3000, highlighting their effectiveness as next-generation antiviral materials for improving hygiene and infection-control measures in everyday environments.
