The global impact of viral outbreaks, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic, has heightened demand for materials and products capable of reducing the spread of infectious agents in everyday environments. As a result, antiviral technologies have become increasingly important in public facilities, consumer goods, and household products, with growing adoption of antiviral-treated plastics and textiles. While conventional antiviral additives, particularly silver-based inorganic materials, provide effective surface protection, they often require relatively high loading levels in resin applications, increasing costs and potentially affecting material properties. To address these limitations, Toagosei developed NOVARON®️ IV4000, a novel inorganic antiviral processing agent specifically designed for resin kneading applications. This paper presents the development, properties, and performance of NOVARON®️ IV4000, highlighting its ability to impart strong antiviral and antibacterial activity to various resins at low addition levels while maintaining heat resistance, light stability, resin strength, and cost effectiveness. The technology represents an important advancement in durable antiviral materials for plastic products used in modern living environments.
