The automotive, appliance, and construction industries are increasingly adopting decorative film technologies as alternatives to conventional painting processes in order to improve design flexibility, durability, and environmental performance. Among these technologies, vacuum pressure forming, also known as Out Mold Decoration (OMD), has gained significant attention because it enables the application of decorative films with complex colors, textures, and three-dimensional designs to a wide variety of substrates. This process offers several advantages, including enhanced aesthetics, applicability to large and deep-drawn components, and improved edge coverage. However, the severe stretching of decorative films during forming and the growing use of engineering plastics and polypropylene substrates create demanding requirements for pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs). These adhesives must provide strong adhesion, excellent holding power, and long-term durability under elevated temperatures and harsh environmental conditions while preventing peeling and displacement caused by film shrinkage. To address these challenges, Toagosei developed ARONTACK MPT-29 and MPT-69, acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives that utilize proprietary tackifier segregation technology to achieve superior high-temperature adhesion and compatibility with a wide range of substrate materials. This paper presents the development, adhesive performance, durability, and application characteristics of these decorative film adhesives, highlighting their suitability for vacuum pressure forming and other high-performance bonding applications.
