Sealants are essential materials in modern construction, serving as barriers that prevent water infiltration and air leakage while maintaining the structural integrity and appearance of buildings. As building performance standards continue to rise and regulatory requirements emphasize durability, sustainability, and long-term reliability, the demand for high-performance sealant materials has increased significantly. In particular, the introduction of housing quality assurance regulations and extended warranty requirements has heightened the need for sealants that can withstand prolonged exposure to weathering, environmental stress, and aging without compromising performance. Conventional sealant technologies, although widely used, often face limitations related to weather resistance, plasticizer bleeding, coating contamination, and durability. To address these challenges, Toagosei developed a series of acrylic polymers using Uniform Functional Oligomer (UFO) technology, a high-temperature continuous bulk polymerization process that produces low-impurity, solvent-free polymers with excellent environmental and performance characteristics. Marketed under the trade name ARUFON, these acrylic polymers offer enhanced weather resistance, low odor, reduced bleeding, and improved compatibility with sealant formulations. This paper examines the development and application of UFO-based ARUFON polymers for sealants, highlighting their performance as both base polymers and plasticizers for next-generation durable sealing systems.
